A legacy of success

Our History

Over 20 years at the heart of Peterborough's business community.

History of the Club

For more than 20 years the Peterborough business community came together at The Business Club, a group that met fortnightly at The Bell Inn, Stilton.

Founded in April 1992 by Brian Soanes to help desperate business owners during a recession, the club attracted business professionals from across the city and the surrounding area, growing in number to more than 500 members.

As well as its regular meetings, and social events the club has had some great speakers including Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.

In 2021, it was decided to relaunch the group under the name The Original Business Club, referencing and celebrating its successful past.

The founders of the new club, being experienced and knowledgeable Peterborough business leaders, had all been members of the earlier club and had a vision to relaunch and adapt it to meet the needs of the 21st Century. This included the launch of a members only online directory, social media groups, and online meetings, whilst retaining the best elements from the past.

Today The Original Business Club is once again a thriving business community, attracting new members from a wide range of sectors and industries. And key components that previous club members enjoyed and found significant value in – such as regular guest and keynote speakers, and a programme of social events – remain a central part of the learning, development, connection, and socialising ethos of the relaunched club.
